An innovative tour of Wellington’s Parliamentary Precinct.

Footsteps of Change is a self-guided tour that takes visitors through iconic landmarks whilst exploring founding civic moments that have defined New Zealand’s history.
The trail takes visitors around eight historically significant locations in the Parliamentary Precinct. Each location explores a major civic event that occurred at each spot, taking visitors back in time to what Wellington looked like.
The initial release of the project involved creating a mobile tour, an interactive trailhead kiosk at Tākina convention centre, and a brochure map. The second release features a Storymapp®, mana whenua oral history interviews on the mobile guide, and a second trailhead at the National Library of New Zealand.

The Storymapp® souvenir map is a stylistic interpretation of the Parliament Precinct, featuring illustrations of each location, interspersed with scenes from each significant event. It’s a functional accompaniment to the mobile guide and a beautiful map that visitors can take home with them to remember their visit.

The mobile guide features narrated insights, mana whenua oral histories, and 360˚ illustrated recreations.

The 360˚ recreations tell a unique story at each stop. The first view shows what life was like in Wellington during a historical period, while the audio narration provides historical context. The second view explores the significant event in detail, and the audio narrates what happened during this monumental moment.

The interactive trailhead promotes the tour with a 3D map overview of the tour. It also serves a dual purpose as a travel planning device.
